2 pedestrians killed while helping driver after crash on Arkansas highway

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — Two people, including a Bald Knob man, died Wednesday after a truck hit them as they tried to help another driver on the side of a highway, according to Arkansas State Police.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. on I-40 near Mulberry in Franklin County. State police say 59-year-old William Burrow of Bald Knob was one of four people who had gotten out of their vehicles to help a woman who had been involved in a previous crash.

As they were standing on the shoulder, a Chevy Avalanche driving westbound ran off the road and hit a disabled Ford Focus, pushing it into the pedestrians.

Burrow and Jesse Lowrey, 39, of Copan, Oklahoma both died from their injuries, according to a preliminary crash report. Two other pedestrians were taken to area hospitals with unspecified injuries.The driver of the Ford Focus, a 56-year-old woman out of Whitley City, Kentucky, was also injured. The driver of the Chevy, who was not identified, did not suffer any injuries.

The weather was rainy and cloudy and the roads were wet at the time of the crash.
