CLINTON TOWNSHIP - State police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred early Sunday morning on Route 78, said Sgt. Philip Curry, spokesperson for the State Police.The accident occurred at 4:46 a.m. on Route 78 westbound around mile marker, Curry said. A Freightliner tractor trailer was parked on the right shoulder when a Jeep heading westbound entered the right shoulder and hit the rear of the parked tractor trailer.
The male driver of the Jeep sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Curry said.
The right two lanes of Route 78 were closed for several hours resulting in minimal traffic.
