Driver critically injured after stopping on I-96 in Detroit to save dog

DETROIT (WXYZ) — A good Samaritan driver was critically injured Sunday when stopping to help a dog that was running loose on I-96 in Detroit. Now police are looking for the driver who fled the scene after hitting the victim.

The incident happened around 3:40 p.m. on westbound I-96 at Livernois.

The driver, a 27-year-old man from Livonia, stopped and attempted to save the dog. The dog was then hit by a vehicle, and another vehicle struck the good Samaritan, according to preliminary information from Michigan State Police.
