Driver struck and killed by truck on the shoulder of Mecca roadway

Cal Fire Riverside officials confirmed a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday afternoon in Mecca.

Cal Fire was first notified of the collision at approximately 2:12 p.m. near the intersection of State Route 86 and 66th Avenue. A California Highway Patrol sergeant told News Channel 3 at the scene confirmed that the pedestrian was a driver of a tractor-trailer who was stopped on the right-hand shoulder of the roadway.

While the driver was checking their equipment, a big rig went slightly over the line and struck the driver. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
