HANDY TWP. – A 32-year-old Lansing man died after he was struck by a vehicle Saturday morning along Interstate 96 in Handy Township, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The incident was reported at 6 a.m. on westbound I-96 near Fowlerville Road.The 32-year-old was standing on the shoulder of the roadway, outside of a vehicle, in an “argument” with his girlfriend when he stepped into traffic and was struck by a sedan driven by a 56-year-old resident of Brighton, the sheriff’s office said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene while his girlfriend, a 22-year-old Lansing resident, was uninjured.
The driver of the sedan was also uninjured, officials said.
The incident closed I-96 for approximately four hours.
The incident remains under investigation.
The Fowlerville Area Fire Department, Livingston County EMS, Hamburg Township Police Department and Michigan State Police assisted.
