One killed in I-26 crash when pickup tries to pass tractor-trailer on shoulder, troopers say

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. — One person is dead after a crash involving two tractor-trailers and a pickup on I-26 in Spartanburg County.

The pickup and one tractor-trailer were traveling east on I-26 about four miles east of Highway 221, according to troopers. Another tractor-trailer was parked on the right shoulder.

The pickup tried to pass the tractor-trailer using the right shoulder and hit the parked tractor-trailer, troopers said.

The tractor-trailer that was traveling east also hit the tractor-trailer that was parked, according to troopers.

A passenger in the pickup, Colby Baxley, 30, of Lexington, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene, troopers said.

The driver of the pickup and the driver of the traveling tractor-trailer were both injured and taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, according to troopers.

South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
