Woman that stopped to help crash victim was hit and killed by driver who took off

FOWLER, Calif. (FOX26) — A good Samaritan that stopped to help an injured driver is now dead after being hit by a vehicle in Fresno County on Wednesday.

CHP responded to a crash involving a Hyundai sedan and a semi-truck on Highway 99 at Manning Ave. around 12:20 a.m.

The driver of the Hyundai had major injuries from the crash and the car was disabled and blocking the number one lane of the highway.

About a minute later, another vehicle stopped in the center divider to help the injured driver.A 27-year-old woman got out of the passenger seat of the second vehicle and went around to the driver’s side of the Hyundai and was hit by a passing SUV.

She was thrown into the center divider and died at the scene.

CHP says the driver of the SUV came to a stop after hitting the woman and then took off.

The SUV driver is now wanted for felony hit-and-run.

The driver of the Hyundai was taken to the hospital with major injuries.

Local law enforcement agencies are searching for a newer model red or burgundy Ford Explorer-type SUV with front-end damage.
