Chesnee teen hit, killed by vehicle while attaching tow strap to RTV, coroner says

SPARTANBURG, S.C. —

A 17-year-old from Chesnee died Monday night while standing outside a truck attaching a tow strap to an RTV, according to the Spartanburg County coroner.Jordan Phillips was pronounced dead just after 9 p.m., Rusty Clevenger said.

Trooper Joe Hovis said Phillips was standing between the RTV and the pickup truck while the truck was stopped on Peachtree Road.

A car traveling north hit the RTV from behind causing it to hit Phillips then the pickup truck, Hovis said.

According to Hovis, the driver of the car was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
