I-24 reopens in Rutherford County after multi-vehicle crash

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A multi-vehicle crash closed a portion of Interstate 24 in Rutherford County Friday morning.

The crash happened in the eastbound lanes around 1:30 a.m. between the Sam Ridley Parkway and Almaville Road exits in Smyrna. According to Tennessee Highway Patrol, the crash involved injuries but neither the number of people injured not the extent of their injuries was immediately released.

Early reports from THP indicate one of the vehicles involved in the crash may have had a mechanical issue and was stranded on the roadway when another vehicle hit the disabled one.

Traffic was diverted at the Sam Ridley exit. The roadway fully reopened to traffic around 6 a.m.
