According to the sheriff, 68-year-old David W. Young was out of his semi and then ran across the road, into the path of an approaching vehicle.
SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. — A 68-year-old man from Mississippi died Tuesday morning after being hit by a vehicle in Shelby County.
Officers with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department were called to the intersection of South Smithland Road and South 425 West around 12:40 a.m. on a report of a person struck.
An initial investigation determined David W. Young, of Tupelo, Mississippi, was driving a semi-tractor and trailer and stopped at the intersection with its headlights and flashers on.The sheriff said Young was out of the semi and then ran across the road, into the path of an approaching vehicle, driven by 19-year-old Noah Horton.
Young was pronounced dead at the scene.
Horton was not injured in the incident, and officers do not suspect alcohol or drugs to be a factor.
