SOUTH BRUNSWICK - Police are seeking information in a hit-and-run that left a 28-year-old South Carolina man in serious condition after he was struck by a van early Saturday morning on southbound Route 1.
At about 1 a.m., the man and his girlfriend were driving on southbound Route 1 near Beekman Road when the vehicle ran out of gas and became disabled, police said. The man got out to push the car and was struck by a white Sprinter van that fled the scene southbound on Route 1, police said. The force of the impact knocked the man 15 feet, police said. He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. The man’s identity was not released pending notification to his family, The van also struck the driver’s side door.
