A 38-year-old Bakersfield man died over the weekend in Fresno County after his vehicle left the road and slammed into a large rock. According to the California Highway Patrol, a resident spotted a wrecked 2013 Acura ILX just before noon Sunday along Highway 180, west of Silver Lane, near Squaw Valley. CHP spokesperson Mike Salas said investigators believe the man was heading east on Highway 180 on Saturday night when his vehicle missed a curve in the road and slid across the gravel shoulder before crashing into a large rock and overturning into a creek bed.
The wreck was not visible from the roadway, Salas said, and wasn’t reported until late Sunday morning. The victim was found inside the car and pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of family.
Salas said the cause of the crash remained under investigation.
