A severe collision between an SUV and a tractor trailer on Interstate 95 seriously injured a driver.
Harnett County Communications Center received a 911 call at 3:14 p.m. on Friday reporting a collision on I-95 south at the Exit 70 (Bud Hawkins Road) entrance ramp. Traffic in the south bound lanes was brought to a complete stop backing traffic up for two miles.
Dunn Emergency Services was immediately dispatched to the wreck.
Upon arrival, the fire officer reported a crash between an SUV and a tractor trailer with “heavy damage” and “a victim pinned in.” A Cumberland County rescue unit arrived on the scene prior to Dunn’s units and requested a medical helicopter from dispatchers.
A Mazda Tribute ran off the right hand side of the highway and slammed into the rear of a tractor trailer box truck that was broken down and waiting for a repair crew to arrive. The truck driver had placed red warning triangles behind the truck. The truck was completely out of the lane of travel.
It took Dunn Emergency Services rescue technicians only 18 minutes to extricate the pinned in driver from the Mazda.
