Victim identified after car flips into Myrtle Beach retention pond, coroner confirms

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — One person is dead after a car was found flipped into a retention pond, according top South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper Nick Pye.

The driver of a 2017 Honda sedan was traveling north on Highway 17 and attempted to take the exit ramp to Highway 22, according to Pye.

The driver ran off the road to the left and overturned into a retention pond, Pyse said. The crash happened at 1:45 a.m.

The victim is identified as Taylor Hughes, 23, of Aynor, according to Horry County coroner Tamara Willard.

Horry County Fire Rescue said they responded to the scene at 7:14 a.m.

The South Carolina Dept. of Public Safety is investigating.
