Investigation into deadly crash involving an 18-wheeler shuts down I-35 in South Austin

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department is investigating a crash involving an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck that killed one person on Interstate 35 in South Austin early Friday morning.

Austin-Travis County EMS said they responded to the crash at 2:45 a.m. in the 9000 block of South I-35 Southbound, across the street from Foremost Drive.

APD said the semi was parked on the right shoulder when it was rear-ended by the pickup truck. The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced deceased by ATCEMS

All southbound lanes were shut off to traffic while police investigated and detoured drivers at William Cannon. The roads reopened around 7 a.m.
