Rescue Video: People walking in a dry creek bed find crashed vehicle with woman inside

MARIPOSA, Calif. (FOX26) — A woman who crashed down an embankment is lucky to be alive after people stumbled upon her wrecked vehicle Thursday morning.

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office says the woman crashed near the Merced River near the town of Bagby in Merced County.

Her vehicle went down the embankment between 200 and 250 feet around 2:00 a.m.

Later Thursday morning, a group doing research in a creek that runs into the Merced River came across a vehicle that had gone over the embankment with someone still inside.

The research group had to find cell service and was able to call 911.

Cal Fire, CHP, Mercy Ambulance, the Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue responded to the scene and loaded the woman into a basket that was lifted by a Cal Fire helicopter to take her to the hospital.

The woman’s condition is not known at this time.
