UPPER CHICHESTER — Pennsylvania State Police are looking for the driver of a blue 2016 or newer Ford F-150 pickup truck that struck and killed a motorist along the shoulder of Interstate 95 northbound prior to mile marker 2.5 Saturday evening at about 9 p.m.
The truck is believed to have right front-end and passenger-side damage as well as a missing a right-side mirror.
State police said the victim, identified as Maurice Pinkard, had run out of gas in his pickup truck and was standing on the right shoulder, filling his vehicle on the driver’s side when he was struck and thrown in front of his vehicle.
The blue Ford F-150 pickup then fled the scene and is believed to have exited the highway at the exit 3 off-ramp at Highland Avenue.
Family members said Pinkard was on his way home from work when he ran out of gas. His wife and daughter brought a can of fuel to him and he was using it as they stood behind the truck wearing protective vests to warn traffic.
They described a pickup truck coming down the shoulder with low beam lights, they tried to wave it off and jumped out of the way but Pinkard wasn’t able to get clear in time.
The family rushed to the stricken man and began CPR, and a passing motorist also stopped and assisted.
“My mother and father had a cone and vests on to protect themselves. We need this person found that drove that pickup truck.” said his daughter Taja Dickerson.
Dickerson praised the one man who helped with CPR while other motorists stood around.
Police had the road closed through much of the evening as they conducted their investigation.
Anyone with information regarding the vehicle, its location, or its owner is asked to contact Trooper Orkisz at 484-840-1000. Ext. 7233 or send email to Morkisx@pa.gov
