Florida man jumps into river to avoid 2nd collision after being ejected from his car in multi-vehicle crash

Florida, United States: After being ejected from his car in an accident on the US’ Interstate Highway 75, a Florida man jumped into a river to avoid getting hit by another car.

Rescue crews responded Thursday to a crash involving three vehicles in the southbound lanes of I-75 at the Little Manatee River overpass, the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said.

One of these vehicles flipped over and the driver was ejected from the car.

He then leaped over the overpass barrier and jumped into the river to avoid being struck by another vehicle.

“Fortunately, the man landed in a deep part of the river and could swim safely to its bank,” the press release stated.

Responders arrived at the scene on jet skis to rescue the driver and took him to an ambulance, which then transported him to an area trauma centre where another person involved in the crash was taken to by road.

While the jumper was reported to be stable at the facility, the extent of either victim’s injuries is unknown.

After a temporary closure, the southbound lanes reopened.
