RIDGEFIELD, NJ, (August 01, 2022) - Authorities have identified a Florida man as the victim of a deadly four-vehicle crash Monday morning on the New Jersey Turnpike in Bergen County.
According to New Jersey State Police, the collision occurred around 11:39 a.m. in the northbound lanes to Interstate-80 at milepost 117.8 in Ridgefield Park.
Ralph McGillan, 85, of Fort Myers, Fla., was killed in the wreck, while four people suffered varying degrees of injuries.
Preliminarily, it appears that a Jeep struck debris in the roadway, causing two flat tires. The vehicle became disabled and northbound traffic slowed near the crash scene. For unknown reasons, a tractor-trailer struck the rear of a Lincoln MKX in which McGillan was a passenger.
Lincoln then collided with a Honda Odyssey, which crashed into the concrete barrier and the disabled Jeep.
Investigation into the collision is ongoing.
