Bleckley County, GA — September 14, 2022, a truck driver died in a fiery crash with another 18-wheeler on the shoulder of Interstate 16 in Bleckley County.
Authorities say the incident happened shortly before 5:15 a.m. on westbound I-16 near mile marker 32. Preliminary investigation suggests that a semi-truck was stopped on the shoulder due to having mechanical problems, and had emergency reflectors placed behind it. Another big rig approached from the east and failed to maintain its lane for unknown reasons; it drove onto the shoulder and crashed into the back of the parked truck.
After the impact the striking truck caught fire. The driver managed to escape the burning vehicle but was found dead in the westbound travel lane.
