KANKAKEE — Illinois State Police troopers are investigating a crash that involved a commercial vehicle in the northbound lanes of Interstate 57 at mile marker 311 in Kankakee County Thursday morning.
The crash occurred at 4:02 a.m., according to ISP District 21 at Ashkum.
Preliminary reports indicate a disabled semitrailer broke down partially in the roadway, ISP District 21 said.
A second semitrailer struck the disabled vehicle in the rear, according to ISP District 21.
The driver and sole occupant of the disabled vehicle sustained no injuries, ISP District 21 said.
The driver and sole occupant of the second semitrailer was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, ISP District 21 said.
All northbound lanes were closed for hours Thursday, ISP District 21 said.
Traffic is being rerouted off the interstate at the northbound mile marker 308 exit (U.S. Route 45/52).
