Tanker-truck wreck kills driver, spills fuel, closes lane of Peach Orchard Road

A man was killed when the tanker truck he was driving overturned and caused a fuel spill Monday evening that closed a lane of Peach Orchard Road through Tuesday morning.

Kenneth Allen Key, 55, of Keysville, was pronounced dead at the scene, Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said early Tuesday.

Key was driving an 18-wheeler south on Peach Orchard shortly after 9 p.m. Monday when the truck hit an abandoned vehicle on the southbound shoulder of the road, about a mile south of Mims Road, according to Richmond County sheriff’s Sgt. William McCarty.

The truck rolled over, killing Key, Bowen said.

The accident is still under investigation, McCarty said.
