SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Stockton man was killed and three others were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on I-5 in Sacramento Thursday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened around 9:30 p.m. on southbound I-5, north of J Street.
CHP says a driver was broken down in the center divider of the interstate waiting for AAA. Their tow truck driver stopped in the #1 lane and a Lexus then pulled up and stopped behind the tow truck.
The driver of a Toyota, a 24-year-old man from Stockton, rear-ended the Lexus. The driver of the Lexus pulled into the divider and began directing traffic around the stalled Toyota.
The driver of a Ford F-150, a 52-year-old man from Clarksburg, was going south on I-5 when he swerved to avoid the Toyota and also pulled into the center divider.
The driver of a Hyundai, a 29-year-old man from Kelso, Washington, didn’t see the stopped Toyota and rear-ended it. The Toyota spun sideways into the rear of the Ford F-150, killing the Toyota’s front passenger – a 67-year-old man from Stockton – and leaving the rear right passenger trapped inside.
Three lanes of I-5 southbound were closed for about three hours.
