Three vehicle crash in Sanpete County leaves one dead

SANPETE COUNTY, Utah — One person died resulting from a crash on SR-89 in Sanpete County around 7:30 p.m. on January 27.

The crash involved three vehicles, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety, DPS.

A Chevrolet Silverado pulling a trailer with a boat, traveling southbound on the SR-89, exited near mile marker 261. Then, the driver attempted to turn onto a side road, despite almost missing the turn.

This caused the truck to slide into a gate and become stuck.

Another vehicle saw the stuck truck and exited to help. The second vehicle helped pull the Chevrolet’s trailer, however, it was positioned in oncoming traffic and blocking northbound travel.

A passenger from the Chevrolet was on the North side of the trailer that was in oncoming traffic. Then, a vehicle traveling northbound on SR-89 attempted to stop in time for the trailer in its travel lane, but could not.

The third vehicle hit the trailer, which was pushed into the passenger of the Chevrolet on the North side.

DPS said in a release the passenger was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. However, was pronounced dead from the injuries they sustained.
