OKLAHOMA CITY — Authorities say one person died after a crash involving 20 vehicles Sunday morning on Interstate 40 in Oklahoma City.
The collision happened shortly after 1 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-40 near Reno Avenue. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol told KOCO 5 that a semi-trailer left the road and went into a nearby river.
A dive team searched the water and eventually pulled out a body.
Information about the person who died or what caused the crash has not been released.
First responders and tow trucks stayed at the scene for hours as they cleaned up and helped others with minor injuries.
As of 10 a.m. on Sunday, westbound I-40 is narrowed to one lane at the I-35/Ft. Smith junction. ODOT said the closure is expected to last most of Sunday and drivers should expect delays but can use northbound I-35 as an alternate route.
