4 vehicles crash after single vehicle hits deer

CASS LAKE — A 66-year-old Henderson, Nevada, man was injured Saturday, Nov. 18, after his vehicle struck a deer on Highway 2 in Cass County.

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to the crash, reported at 5:59 p.m. near Cass Lake. According to the crash report, a 2023 Nissan Sentra was eastbound on the highway when it hit a deer and then collided with a 2017 Nissan Titan. A 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, also traveling east on the highway, swerved to avoid the Nissan Sentra, which was disabled in the lanes, and collided with a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado parked off the roadway assisting with the initial crash.

The driver of the Sentra, Charles Gilbert Silas, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Cass Lake Indian Health Services. The driver of the Silverado, Tayden Edward Savage, 28, of Bemidji; Monte Carlo driver, James Rodney Hilliard, 72, of Bemidji; and Titan driver Jesse Michael Paggen, 48, of St. Joseph, suffered no reported injuries.

The State Patrol reported the road was dry at the time of the crash.
