One person seriously injured in Route 80 crash in Wharton

A crash on Route 80 east left one person with serious injuries Tuesday evening in Wharton.

According to the state police, a Subaru SUV and a Volvo were traveling eastbound on I-80 at 7:40 p.m. The Subaru SUV, driven by a 32-year-old Highland Lakes resident, abruptly slowed down at milepost 38.8 and came to a halt in the lanes of travel due to a prior crash.

The stationary Subaru was rear-ended by the Volvo tractor-trailer, driven by a 63-year-old Scranton, Pennsylvania resident. While the Scranton man sustained minor injuries, the impact of the collision left the Highlands Lake resident with serious injuries.

Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine the factors that led to it. As of now, the crash remains under investigation.
