BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 61-year-old California City man was killed after being struck by a semi-truck on Highway 58 early Christmas Eve.
The California Highway Patrol said on December 24, 2023, at around 1:13 a.m., officers were called to a crash on westbound Highway 58 near Tehachapi Boulevard.
CHP said a 61-year-old California City man was standing within the roadway of Highway 58 westbound to Tehachapi Boulevard, after being involved in a separate crash.
A 23-year-old Fresno man was driving an International LT, a combination truck tractor, pulling a Hyundai westbound on Highway 58 to Tehachapi Boulevard. CHP said as the Fresno man was driving, he suddenly saw the 61-year-old man standing within the roadway directly in front of vehicle.
According to CHP, the driver of the truck tractor was unable to take evasive actions to avoid a crash and as a result, hit the man.
CHP said the 61-year-old man died.
It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision, according to CHP.
