Bunkie man killed in 3-vehicle crash in Lafayette Parish on Christmas Day, police say

A 30-year-old Bunkie man was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 49 in Lafayette Parish early Christmas Day, according to the Louisiana State Police.

Tevin Ford was headed north on I-49 in a 2021 Chevrolet Corvette at a high speed when he rear ended an 18-wheeler hauling sugar cane, State Police said. Ford’s car, which was disabled in the roadway, was then hit by a 2021 Nissan Versa that was also headed north.

Ford, who police said wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his car and pronounced dead on scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office. His passenger was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to State Police.

The driver of the 18-wheeler suffered minor injuries and the driver of the Versa was not hurt in the crash, police said.

The crash was reported to police shortly after 1 a.m. and its cause is still under investigation.

Police did not immediately release more information.
