Good Samaritan struck by vehicle while trying to help victims at scene of earlier Ann Arbor crash

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - A good Samaritan is recovering after being hit by a vehicle while assisting the drivers involved in an earlier crash in Ann Arbor on Tuesday, police said.

The Ann Arbor Police Department said officers and first responders were called out to the intersection of Washtenaw Ave. and Pittsfield Blvd. around 5:50 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26th on reports of a T-bone crash.

According to an investigation, officers said a 30-year-old man behind the wheel of a sedan did not yield at a flashing red signal and pulled out in front of a westbound car. The two vehicles ended up colliding with each other and injured both drivers.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a third victim. A Good Samaritan was also injured when they stopped to help the injured drivers and was hit by a passing vehicle that swerved to avoid the initial crash site.

Both the injured drivers and the Good Samaritan sustained non-life threatening injuries were transferred to a local hospital for further care.

Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the incident and all involved parties cooperated with the investigation, Ann Arbor police said.
