BAZETTA — A Newton Falls man was killed early Friday in a crash on state Route 5.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. and involved two vehicles. The crash killed Bo Angel, 36.
The other vehicle, a red 2018 Mack garbage truck, was driven by Bryan Wilson Jr., 34, of Warren.
Angel succumbed to his injuries following the crash, according to the patrol, while Wilson suffered minor injuries. The release from the patrol stated that Angel had earlier called the Trumbull County 911 Center to report his disabled vehicle.
The vehicle, a Gray 2016 Ford Escape, was stopped in the right-hand lane of Route 5. Wilson approached from behind and struck the Escape’s rear, causing it to spin 360 degrees. Both vehicles came to rest on the shoulder, the release states.
Officers from Bazetta and Champion police departments, along with Bazetta Fire and EMS, assisted at the scene.
In a Champion police report, one officer noted that they were dispatched to assist Bazetta police with the crash just west of Elm Road, in the eastbound lanes.
“The vehicle that was struck was called in as a DAV by the driver,” the report states. “Upon my arrival, I tried to help with getting the driver out of the vehicle that was hit. The driver was entrapped in the vehicle and was not moving or talking.”
The officer stated that shortly after arriving, the driver was pronounced dead. “While standing at the front of the crashed vehicle, I observed that the marker lights were flashing like hazard lights but very dim.”
After learning the state of the victim, township police advised dispatch to ask OSHP to take the crash because it was fatal. Officers stayed on the scene to assist troopers with their investigation.
