EL PASO, TX, (December 16, 2023) - One person died and two others were seriously injured Saturday night in a hit-and-run accident in El Paso.
According to the El Paso Police Department, a Dodge Charger was heading eastbound along Interstate 10 when it sustained a flat tire and stopped along the center median outside of the flow of traffic at approximately 6:30 p.m. Subsequently, a Ford Mustang attempted to swerve around an Acura that was helping to alert people to the Charger, entered the median, and struck the Charger and three pedestrians.
After impact, the Mustang returned to the roadway, collided with a Volkswagen Jetta, and fled eastbound on I-10. The Mustang eventually became disabled near the Porfirio Diaz overpass and the driver ran on foot.
One of the victims, identified as Clint resident Perla Vasquez, was tragically declared deceased at the scene.
The other two people struck were seriously injured and transported to University Medical Center for treatment.
