COLUMBUS, OH, (February 09, 2023) - One person was killed, and three others suffered injuries after a Thursday morning crash on Interstate 70 in East Side, according to Columbus police.
The events unfolded shortly after midnight on Thursday morning on I-70 westbound at the exit to Interstate 270. Police say a Ford Explorer driven by a 43-year-old Driving Park woman was traveling west on I-70 approaching the exit ramps when she struck an impact attenuator on the highway, causing the vehicle to become disabled. The woman then exited her vehicle while her passenger, Antonio Stubbs, stayed inside the SUV, police said.
At that time, a man walked down the highway from an apartment complex to help the Driving Park resident and the passenger sitting in the disabled car. That is when a Chevrolet Malibu heading westbound on I-70 struck the woman and the good Samaritan.
Tragically, the woman died as a result of injuries sustained in the wreck. The good Samaritan was sent to Mount Carmel East hospital in critical condition, police said.
Stubbs, 35, of the Far West Side, was brought to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The Chevrolet driver was transported to Mount Carmel East with severe injuries, according to police.
An investigation is ongoing.
