3-year-old killed after being ejected from car during crash, struck by unknown vehicle

A 3-year-old child was killed late Wednesday night in Tuscaloosa County after they were ejected from a vehicle during a crash then struck by another vehicle, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

ALEA’s Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. The agency said the child was a passenger in a Hyundai Genesis that struck a Ford F350 around 11:12 p.m. Wednesday night near the 135 mile marker on Highway 69.

Officials said the 3-year-old and another 4-year-old passenger were not using seat belts or child restraints at the time of the crash and were both ejected from the vehicle. The driver, 24-year-old Shadereka Green, was also ejected from the car.

After the initial collision, the 3-year-old was struck by an unidentified vehicle. That car did not stop or return to the scene.

The 3-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Green and the 4-year-old were both injured and transported to area hospitals for medical treatment. Officials did not say if Green and the two children were related.

The vehicle involved in the subsequent crash, along with the driver, are currently unknown. If anyone has information concerning the crash, please contact ALEA Troopers at 205-553-5531.
