DAFTER TOWNSHIP, MI – At least six people were injured after a multi-vehicle pileup on a highway in the Upper Peninsula during a snowstorm Wednesday afternoon.
Multiple crashes involving several vehicles were reported around 1 p.m. near the intersection of M-28 and South Soo Line Road in Dafter Township, according to Chippewa County Central Dispatch. A nearly 10-mile stretch of highway – M-28 between I-75 and M-221 – was closed until 3:30 p.m. as police, firefighters and paramedics worked at the scene.
At least nine vehicles were involved in the crash and six people were transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to Dafter Township Fire Department, which responded to the scene.
The conditions and identities of those who were injured were not released.
Chippewa County was experiencing severe winter weather at the time of the crash and people were advised to stay off the roads.
