FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A missing woman’s rental car and a body were found in a pond near Palm Coast on Monday, according to the sheriff’s office.
Law enforcement responded to the area of Matanzas Woods and Palm Harbor parkways on Monday.
Deputies said they found the car in the nearby pond that is believed to have been driven by Erica Bergeron, 49, who was previously reported missing.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were able to remove the car and a 49-year-old Jacksonville woman from the pond, though her identity has not yet been confirmed.
The car, however, is the same vehicle that Bergeron was believed to be traveling in when she was reported missing, a gray 2021 Toyota Camry, deputies said.
According to a crash report, the woman was driving northwest on Palm Harbor Parkway, southeast of Cris Lane when, for an unknown reason, she veered right and off the road. The sedan then struck a tree and landed in the pond, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Deputies said Bergeron had last been seen on Thursday at Palm Coast Lanes, a bowling alley located at 11 N. Old Kings Road.
