Update at 3:40 p.m.: The accident was because of a rear-end accident followed by another accident before officers were able to secure the scene, according to Geddes Police Chief John Fall. Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, he said.

Syracuse, N.Y. - Multiple vehicles have crashed, causing all westbound lanes to close on Interstate-690 west of Syracuse, according to 511NY alerts.
Geddes Police Department responded to a reported crash between two vehicles on I-690 around 11:41 a.m., according to dispatches from the county 911 Center.
The crash was on the ramp from Route 695 South from Route 690 West, said Geddes Police Chief John Fall.
Minutes later, dispatchers said two other vehicles, a car and a truck with a trailer hitched to the back, were also involved in the crash.
Police told dispatchers passengers needed to be extricated from the vehicles.
There appears to be heavy damage to two of the cars involved.
At least three ambulances responded to the call, according to dispatchers. It is unclear if anyone in the accident was injured at this time.
