Driver seriously injured after rear-ending stopped semi-truck on East D Avenue

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Travelers were asked to detour around a portion of East D Avenue after a car crash closed the road Thursday morning.

The crash happened between 28th Street and 30th Street near Richland when a driver rear-ended a semi-truck, according to Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.

The semi-truck had stopped on the road and was making a delivery at the time of the crash, deputies said.

The driver was cut out of the car and taken to the hospital with serious injuries, deputies said.

No one else was hurt in the crash.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.

Drivers were asked to use alternate routes such as M-89 to the north, or DE Avenue/Gull Road to the south, according to the sheriff’s office.

At 12:15 p.m., deputies said drivers can expect the road to remain closed for another hour.
