SOUTHINGTON — A Wolcott tractor trailer driver was seriously injured Wednesday morning after, state police said, he lost control of his truck and collided with another truck parked off the side of the highway.
The collision was reported a little before 10 a.m. on Interstate 84. State police said the Wolcott driver was driving in the eastbound lanes when “for an unknown reason,” he lost control of the Freightliner.
The truck traveled from the center lane across the highway, right shoulder and rest area off-ramp before colliding with a Kenworth T660 tractor trailer parked in the right shoulder of the Southington rest area off-ramp, state police said.
The two trucks came to rest in the grassy area off the ramp, state police said.
The driver of the truck that was hit told authorities he was unhurt and refused medical treatment, state police said.
The 61-year-old driver of the Freightliner “sustained serious injuries as a result of this collision” and was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, state police said.
