FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. (7News) — Three people were found dead Sunday after passersby discovered a car at the bottom of Union Bridge Quarry in Frederick County, according to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO).
Around 8:35 a.m., deputies were called to the Union Bridge Quarry in the area of Lehigh Road and Peter Shriner Road, officials said.
The preliminary investigation shows that a 2022 Dodge Charger was speeding, went off the roadway, and plunged into the bottom of the dry quarry,
Those killed in the crash were identified as Kortney Angleberger, 28, of Keymar, Maryland, Robert Grossnickle, 65, of Woodsboro, Maryland, and Rachel Willis, 23, of Dickerson, Maryland.
FCSO deputies made all next of kin notifications.
Officers found a car propped upright with a male and a female victim inside, Wivell said.
Another female had been ejected from the car higher up in the quarry, he said.
The Union Bridge Quarry is owned by Heidelberg Materials US, Inc., according to Wivell. The surrounding area of Liberty Town and Union Bridge is very rural and consists of many curvy roads.
The quarry itself is relatively deep, although officials did not have exact measurements on hand.
First responders will remain at the scene for an undetermined amount of time, officials said.
The investigation is ongoing.
No further details were immediately available. Authorities will release more information at a later time, officials said.
