Desoto County, FL — June 14, 2023, an Arcadia woman was killed and others were injured following a truck accident at 11:25 a.m. along County Road 769.
Authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol said that the crash took place along the Kings Highway and involved approximately five vehicles.
Current information suggests the events began as a tow truck pulling a trailer was going northbound along County Road 769. Somehow, the trailer came detached from the truck, causing it to veer into oncoming lanes. There, the trailer caused a chain reaction crash by hitting an SUV. Three other vehicles then crashed.
As a result of the accident, the SUV driver sustained fatal injuries. That person was identified only as a 54-year-old Arcadia woman. It appears that others were injured, as well. One of those victims was reportedly in serious condition when taken from the scene. Other injuries were described as minor. At this time, it’s unclear if authorities are considering any charges or citations. There’s no official reason given as to why the trailer detached from the truck. Investigations are ongoing.
