HAYWARD, CA (June 13, 2023) — A woman died, and two men suffered significant injuries after a driver hit two crashed cars on the 880 Freeway near Highway 92.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident happened around 4:00 a.m. Saturday. Under unclear circumstances, a man driving a 2019 Lincoln MKC crashed into a 2012 Toyota, driven by a man and occupied by a female passenger. All three occupants stopped in the northbound fast lane and exited their respective vehicles. However, as the vehicles remained parked in the fast lane, an oncoming 2022 Dodge Durango crashed into the vehicles and all three pedestrians.
The female Toyota passenger suffered fatal injuries in the accident and the two men suffered major non-life-threatening wounds.
When police officers arrived, they found no one inside the Dodge, which reportedly flipped onto the right shoulder.
However, the initial statements indicated that the Dodge was possibly racing another vehicle prior to the collision. If anyone has additional information about this crash, please call CHP Hayward at 510-489-1500.
