Tragic Multi-Vehicle Collision on Eastbound Red Mountain 202 in Phoenix

According to DPS, a hit-and-run driver fleeing from a separate crash in an unknown area was involved in a single-vehicle collision.

A child from the initial collision which the driver was fleeing from, was hospitalized as a precaution.

A secondary collision with the disabled hit-and-run vehicle occurred moments later.

2 good samaritans witnessed the crash, stopped their vehicles, and approached the crash on foot to provide assistance.

At that time, a 3rd collision occurred where 1 of the good samaritans was struck.

2 adult males were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, the adult male good samaritan who was struck, was transported to a local hospital in extremely critical condition and was later pronounced deceased.

5 vehicles in total were involved in the incident, 1 from the initial collision and 4 from the 202 collision.

The incident has resulted in a hard closure of eastbound Red Mountain 202.

The closure is expected to remain in place throughout the morning, lasting several hours, as AZ DPS detectives investigate the crash.
