2 dead after crash involving tractor-trailer on I-95 in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) – Two people have died after a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in Fairfield, according to state police.

Troopers responded to the crash around 11:59 p.m. Thursday on I-95 North before Exit 22.

A preliminary investigation showed a Chevrolet Impala was driving in the center lane when it spun out for an unknown reason, entered the median and struck the concrete jersey barrier. The Impala then became disabled in the center lane.

Police said both a BMW 300 and a Cascadia Freightliner collided with the Impala. Due to the impact of the crash, the driver of the Impala, identified as 75-year-old William Foster of Bridgeport, was ejected from the vehicle.

After colliding with the Impala, the tractor-trailer also entered the median and hit the concrete jersey barrier. The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as 70-year-old Fred Nimmon from Pennsylvania, was ejected into the median on I-95 South.

Both Foster and Nimmon were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the BMW 300 was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
