Update: Southbound I-83 in the area reopened around 6:30 a.m.
A person involved in a crash early Tuesday morning on Interstate 83 was hit by two vehicles and killed after getting out of their vehicle, according to a PennDOT spokeswoman.
The incident happened around 12:45 a.m. on I-83 southbound at mile marker 36.5, which is near the Fishing Creek exit in York County.
According to PennDOT, a person got out of a vehicle after a crash in the snow. They were hit by another vehicle, knocked into the northbound lanes and hit by a tractor-trailer.
The person was pronounced dead at a hospital.
While the northbound lanes of I-83 have reopened in the area, southbound remains closed as of 5:45 a.m. between exits 39A (Lewisberry Road) and 36 (Fishing Creek).
PennDOT says visibility was limited at the time of the crash. Snow moved into the region Monday night and continues this morning.
