OHP: Driver swerves to miss pedestrian, hits unoccupied vehicle

A Lawton woman was hospitalized following a single-vehicle collision south of Ninnekah according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).

The woman was driving eastbound on the outside lane of the H.E. Bailey Turnpike just before 5:30 a.m. on Sunday. She swerved into the inside lane to avoid hitting a pedestrian on the shoulder of the road. She then struck an unoccupied vehicle that was disabled in the middle of the inside lane, according to OHP.

OHP did not specify whether the pedestrian was the driver or the passenger of the disabled vehicle. No injuries were reported for either.

The driver was transported by Chickasha EMS to OU Trauma Center in Oklahoma City where she was admitted with back injuries, according to OHP.
