(KRON) – A fatal collision has left a man dead in Antioch early Sunday morning, according to Contra Costa California Highway Patrol.
At 5:13 a.m., a CHP officer noticed a two-vehicle crash eastbound on Highway 4 in Antioch. The collision involved a gray Honda CR-V and a blue Ford F-150.
Both vehicles were driven by men with no other passengers.
According to the investigation, the Honda was disabled for an unknown reason in the fourth lane. The driver of the Ford then slammed into the Honda’s rear, causing the disabled SUV to become fully engulfed. The driver of the Honda was trapped inside the SUV.
The driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital for his injuries and is expected to recover, according to CHP.
The driver of the Honda succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP said drugs or alcohol were not a factor in this collision.
