Louisiana Man Struck and Killed in Secondary Tangipahoa Parish Crash

Hammond, LA – An 81-year-old man died in a secondary crash in Tangipahoa Parish on Thursday evening. Charles Baglio Jr., of Independence, was fatally struck on US Hwy 51 near Kohnke Hill Road.

Louisiana State Police say Baglio was initially involved in a two-car crash at the intersection. Afterward, he left his vehicle to check on another driver involved. As Baglio returned to his car, a Toyota Tundra struck him in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the Toyota driver was unharmed and did not appear impaired. A toxicology sample was collected from Baglio for investigation purposes.

Troopers emphasize the importance of caution near disabled vehicles or pedestrians. Pedestrians are advised to wear reflective materials and avoid distractions while walking near roadways. Louisiana State Police encourage anyone witnessing a hazardous situation to report it by dialing *LSP (577).
