BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol said a 19-year-old woman was hit and killed on I-95 after stepping out of her own car following a crash.
According to FHP, the crash happened just after midnight on I-95 south approaching Pineda Causeway (mile marker 188). Witnesses told troopers that a 2010 Lexus ES350 sedan was speeding and weaving between traffic before hitting the rear of a semi-truck in the outside lane. The Lexus came to a stop partially inside the outside lane and outside shoulder. The semi-truck came to a stop on the outside shoulder.
After the crash, the 19-year-old Melbourne woman exited the vehicle. The driver of a Ford pickup truck traveling in the outside, southbound lane attempted to avoid the Lexus but hit the rear of the car while swerving to its left. The Lexus then struck its driver, who had already stepped outside the car.
She was thrown into the inside lane by the collision before being struck by a Toyota Camry. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 16-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Lexus was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two other passengers in the Lexus were not injured and remained on scene. The tractor-trailer, pickup truck and Toyota Camry drivers were not injured and remained at the scene.
