WILLARD, Utah (KUTV) — One person died and another was critically injured in a crash on I-15 in Box Elder County, authorities reported.
According to a statement from the Utah Department of Public Safety, a blue Prius with two occupants was traveling southbound on the interstate through Willard on Tuesday night when it appears to have lost control due to weather conditions and hit the concrete barrier on the highway’s median just after 10 p.m.
The car came to a rest sideways on the shoulder, according to DPS.
Both the driver and the passenger opened their doors. The female passenger remained in her seat. The male driver exited the vehicle and was then struck by a Ford Expedition before it crashed directly into front passenger side of the laterally-positioned Prius.
The female passenger was killed in the crash.
The male outside the vehicle was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
